Johan G. Eriksson became professor in General Practice at the University of Helsinki in 2006 and holds specialties in general practice and internal medicine. He is also chief physician at Helsinki University Central Hospital and Director for the Program of Public Health Research at Folkhälsan Research Centre.
Earlier he held the adjunct professorship in experimental endocrinology at the same university. His doctoral thesis, which was published in 1988, concerned the psychosomatic aspects of coronary artery bypass surgery.
He has published over 500 articles in internationally peer-reviewed journals primarily around pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, prevention of diabetes and programming of health and disease. His h-index is 84. He has initiated the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study and is the PI of that study and he also the PI of the GDM prevention study RADIEL.
He works clinically mainly in the field of diabetes and obesity surgery and is the chairperson for the Finnish Diabetes Association’s Doctors Board.
